How to read the Bible using the S.O.A.P. Method

1. SCRIPTURE.
Read the Passage.
Choose a time when you can give your full attention to what you are are reading. Ask God to guide your time in His word. The first goal is to remember what you read.
2. OBSERVATION.
Make observations.
As you read, be sure to ask questions of the passage. Take time to pause and think deeply about what you're reading. Take the time to write down notes. The second goal is understanding what you read.
3. APPLICATION.
Find your application.
Reflect on what you have observed. What response is the Lord leading you to make? Christians are to be "doers of the Word and not hearers only." The third goal is to single out life application from what you read.
4. PRAYER
Pray back Scripture.
God intends His word to have an impact on us. Pray back what you have observed thanking Him for giving you insight. Pray over your applications from the Word, asking Him for strength and grace to follow through with your commitments. The final goal is the Word moving from head to heart, from heart to action.
